Case Study
Illuminate
Illuminate was the series of festivals in Yorkshire under one umbrella, funded by the Government’s ‘runner-up’ programme following the European Capital of Culture 2008 bid by Bradford.
We undertook quantitative and qualitative research for the 5 cities in Yorkshire – Hull, Sheffield, Bradford, Leeds and York – in the programme. This research helped to inform future cultural planning - it led directly to the illumination of Bradford Town Hall by Patrice Warrener, following his successful lighting of York Minster during ILLUMINATE.
The research also quantified the economic impacts that ILLUMINATE had; our report into the positive outcomes of the festivals has led to further investment in cultural programmes in the cities.
Bradford, as a result, commissioned further research into their Big Summer Festivals that has led to a greater understanding of the Big Summer attendees and the social and economic impacts of them. This has led to further investment as the economic multiplyers are seen to be good news for the city.
